ATA 101 Atatürk’s Principles and History of Turkish Revolution I

Course Objective

The objective of this course is to enable students to acquire, on a scientific basis, knowledge of the modernisation movements undertaken within the framework of the search for solutions in the Ottoman Empire, which had begun to decline due to political, economic, social, and military problems; the political developments experienced during the transition from the Empire to the Nation-State; and the establishment of the Republic of Türkiye as a result of the National Struggle led by Mustafa Kemal Atatürk.

Course Content

Basic concepts; the Ottoman Empire and modernisation movements in the Ottoman Empire; reasons for the decline of the Ottoman Empire; the Young Ottomans; the Constitutional Monarchy; the Committee of Union and Progress; the Constitutional Era; the Tripolitanian War and the Balkan Wars; the First World War: causes of the war, fronts on which the Ottoman Empire fought, secret treaties, and consequences of the war; the Armistice of Mudros and the partition of the Ottoman Empire; the National Struggle: the preparatory period, associations, the National Forces, and congresses; regional congresses, the Erzurum Congress, and the Sivas Congress; the last Ottoman Chamber of Deputies and the National Pact; the opening of the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye and the formation of the new Turkish State; fronts in the National Struggle: the Eastern, Southern, and Western Fronts; the Armistice of Mudanya and the Treaty of Lausanne.

KPD 101 Career Planning

Course Objective

The objective of the Career Planning course is to guide students in determining career paths that are compatible with their intelligence, personality, knowledge, skills, abilities, and competencies. Within the scope of the course, awareness of these concepts will be raised; Career Centres and their activities, through which students may receive support regarding their careers throughout their university education, will be introduced; students will be shown how to use and benefit from the Talent Gate platform; and they will be provided with opportunities to become familiar with professional life in different sectors.

Course Content

It is recommended that the Career Planning course be delivered within the framework prepared by the Human Resources Office of the Presidency of the Republic of Türkiye, using weekly videos and activities, as well as guest lecturers invited from among university faculty members, sector professionals, non-governmental organisations, and international organisations.

The supporting activities to be included within the scope of the course are designed to provide students with information about the methods and tools used in professional applications and to enable them to use these methods and tools in the most effective manner. These activities are supported by practical exercises.

Career centres will support the practical implementation of the course by offering activities that provide students with opportunities to develop their skills and gain experience. The recommended programme concerning the structure and content of the course is presented below. This programme may vary according to the characteristics of universities and the departments in which the students taking the course are enrolled.

TDB 101 Turkish Language I

Course Objective

To enable students to comprehend the structure and fundamental grammatical features of Turkish, to understand written texts appropriately, and to expand their vocabulary.

The history and fundamental rules of Turkish and the reading of selected literary and scientific texts.

TRZ 101 Introduction to Tourism

Course Objective

The objective of this course is to enable students to understand the fundamental concepts of the tourism industry and to provide them with a general overview of the structure and scope of tourism demand and tourism supply. In addition to evaluating the broader social and economic impacts of tourism, students will gain a deeper understanding of the sectors operating on the supply side of tourism, the utilisation of natural and cultural resources within the context of tourism, and the fundamental principles of successful and sustainable tourism management.

TRZ 103 Introduction to Business Administration

Course Objective

As this course is designed as an introductory course that provides a foundation for the other courses offered within the Department of Business Administration, its objective is to introduce the fundamental concepts of business administration and the techniques that students may use in professional life, together with new ideas and paradigms.

ATA 102 Atatürk’s Principles and History of Turkish Revolution II

Course Objective

The objective of this course is to enable students to acquire knowledge of the conditions under which the Republic of Türkiye was established; Atatürk’s qualities as a great statesman, reformer, and leader; Atatürk’s principles and reforms implemented to raise Turkish society to the level of contemporary nations; the political, social, economic, and cultural developments that occurred as a result of the restructuring of the state and society; and domestic and foreign political developments. The course also aims to contribute to students’ understanding of the era in which they live and the contemporary world.

Course Content

Political reforms: abolition of the Sultanate, proclamation of the Republic, abolition of the Caliphate, constitutional movements, attempts to transition to a multi-party system; reforms in the field of law and the new legal order; reforms in education and culture; reforms in the social sphere; reforms in the economic sphere; Turkish foreign policy during the Atatürk period, 1923–1938; Atatürk’s principles: republicanism, nationalism, populism, statism, secularism, and reformism; complementary principles; and Türkiye after Atatürk, including domestic and foreign political developments.

ENF 101 Use of Information Technologies

Course Objective

The objective of this course is to enable students to understand the importance of basic information technologies, acquire problem-solving and analytical skills, establish a foundation for their research and learning needs, and improve their learning skills by understanding the importance of technology and science in their education and professional lives.

Computer hardware, software and operating systems, fundamental concepts related to the internet, information ethics, web-based learning, word processing, presentation preparation, spreadsheets, and recent developments in information and communication technologies.

TDB 102 Turkish Language II

Course Objective

The objective of this course is to provide associate and undergraduate students with information about the general characteristics of sentence structures in Turkish based on the natural functioning of language, and to develop their comprehension and expression skills through written and oral communication practices.

Sentence structures in Turkish and examples of usages that conflict with these structures, comprehension and expression practices, and the general characteristics of different types of writing.

TRZ 102 Tourism Geography

Course Objective

This course aims to provide students with fundamental information about the Tourism Geography of Türkiye.

The Tourism Geography course covers fundamental concepts, types of tourism, the tourism potential of Türkiye, and the natural, cultural, and artistic values of all geographical regions of Türkiye.

TRZ 201 Tourist Behaviour

Course Objective

To provide information about behavioural issues from the perspectives of tourism, tourists, and tourism employees, and to evaluate the behaviour of individuals working in tourism management based on the knowledge acquired.

Course Objective

The objective of this course is to provide students with information about the fundamental concepts and practices related to management and organisations, the historical development of management thought and management approaches, and the functions of management.

TRZ 205 Rooms Division Management

Course Objective

Beginning with the provision of information about the Rooms Division, this course examines its managerial structures, communication processes, and relationships with other departments. Particular emphasis is placed on the operations of the front office and housekeeping departments, which constitute the Rooms Division in hotels, and the factors affecting hotel efficiency and success are examined. Students will acquire knowledge about the importance and management of the Rooms Division.

Course Objective

The objective of this course is to teach students the concept of cost management, which is one of the fundamental processes of a food and beverage enterprise, and to enable them to adopt the principles related to the management of the main food and beverage operations centred on cost.

TRZ 302 Sociology of Tourism

Course Objective

This course aims to generate discussion among students regarding the historical development of tourism and the direction in which tourism may evolve in the future. By considering the tourist as a “typical modern individual,” the course explores who the tourist is, how many types of tourists may be identified, and new discoveries concerning tourist destinations within the context of globalisation.

In addition to the economic dimension of the sociology of tourism, the social dimension of tourism as a social phenomenon will also be addressed. Topics such as the social and cultural changes emerging in a tourism destination as tourism develops, tourist behaviour, tourist satisfaction, employee behaviour, social relations with the local population, the globalisation dimension of tourism, and the labour market will be examined.
