There are 1352 students actively studying at our school.

How many departments and programs are there in your school?

There are 4 Departments / 6 Programs: Gastronomy and Culinary Arts (Formal and Evening Education), Tourism Guidance (Formal and Evening Education), Recreation Management (Formal), and Tourism Management (Formal).

What is the duration of a lesson?

50 minutes in face-to-face education.

20 minutes in distant education/training processes.

Where can I find important dates related to education and training?

How many practice kitchens are there in your school?

There are 2 Basic Practice Kitchens, 1 Pastry Kitchen, 1 service kitchen and 1 demonstration kitchen.

Do students have to pay any extra material costs for the practical classes?

Do students have to wear special uniforms for practical classes?

Yes. Special uniforms must be worn in the practice classes of Gastronomy and Culinary Arts Department.

In which positions can graduates or current students start their careers?

The graduates of Gastronomy and Culinary Arts Department can determine a career according to their personal development in all enterprises engaged in food and beverage production and service. The main purpose of the department is not to train cooks or pastry chefs. Therefore, the mission of the department should be understood correctly. In the department, there are many classes ranging from theoretical and practical courses related to production in the kitchen, especially cooking and pastry, to accounting and finance, from courses on beverage technologies to strategic management and human resources. The aim here is to provide our students with knowledge and experience in several aspects of gastronomy theory, gastronomy practice and gastronomy management.

In order for our students to have a good position upon graduation from our department, we strive to ensure that they have the following qualifications:

  1. A high average of success in the theoretical and practical courses in the department,
  2. Experience of working in the sector without a break during all summer seasons starting from the first year,
  3. At least 1 semester abroad experience in ERASMUS+ or MEVLANA countries abroad with which our department has agreements,
  4. Ability to speak two foreign languages fluently.

It is observed that our students who complete their four-year undergraduate education with the above qualifications have access to a wide range of employment opportunities in Türkiye and abroad after graduation, some of our students establish their own enterprises, and some of them prefer to pursue an academic career.

The graduates and active students of the Department of Tourism Guidance can find job opportunities as tour operators, transfer personnel (Transferman), and guides, which are the most basic job categories.

The graduates of Tourism Management Department have the opportunity to work in all the fields of tourism sector. Tourism sector has been generally evaluated in different categories such as accommodation businesses, food and beverage businesses, travel and transportation businesses and entertainment businesses. The graduates of tourism management can work in all of these areas.

The graduates of Recreation Management Department; in the field of Travel and Transportation; have job opportunities in companies such as convention services, travel agencies, tourism bureaus, outdoor activity equipment companies, ecotourism companies, and cruise lines.

In addition to the knowledge and skills acquired at school, what kind of strategy should I follow in order to become a preferred employee in these enterprises?

You should develop your programming, leadership and communication skills,

  • Summer vacation periods should be dedicated to language development at home or abroad,
  • You should travel to different parts of the country or the world to see different cultures,
  • You should participate in travel and recreation related organizations within the university.

In the field of Hospitality, Facility Management & Event Planning: They also have job opportunities in hotels, motels, restaurants, resorts, camps, recreation communities, theme parks, and special event companies.

In addition to the knowledge and skills acquired at school, what kind of strategy should I follow in order to become a preferred employee in these enterprises?

You should gain experience working in hotels' leisure & entertainment departments or special event companies at appropriate times out of the classes.

You should volunteer and work in recreational activities on campus at the university.

In the Local Commercial Recreation Field: They have job opportunities in multi-purpose sports clubs, dance studios, health and fitness clubs, golf courses, movie theaters, ice skating rinks, party services, entertainment organization companies, and festival organization companies.

In addition to the knowledge and skills acquired at school, what kind of strategy should I follow in order to become a preferred employee in these enterprises?

  • You should try to gain in-depth knowledge in these areas and develop your skills,
  • You should try to gain experience in part-time or seasonal jobs,
  • You should become a member of clubs related to these fields.

In the Field of Therapeutic Recreation: They have job opportunities in rehabilitation centers, nursing homes, adult care centers, facilities for people with special needs, addiction centers, detention houses, and educational institutions.

In addition to the knowledge and skills acquired at school, what kind of strategy should I follow in order to become a preferred employee in these enterprises?

  • You should develop your skills to work as part of an interdisciplinary team
  • You must have a school diploma as well as a certificate in this field
  • Creativity and imagination are the qualities you need in this field
  • You must be patient, tactful, and persuasive
  • You must be in good physical condition,
  • You should try to gain experience by volunteering in relevant organizations.

In Public Sector (Parks and Natural Resources Management): They have job opportunities in provincial, district, or regional government agencies, and the military, including parks, forests, wildlife reserves, water resources, and public recreation programs.

  • You should familiarize yourself with public job application procedures,
  • You should be active in local recreation programs and activities,
  • You should choose courses in wildlife, exercise science or other related fields.

In the Field of Social Services: They have job opportunities in camps, child protection institutions, youth programs, special sports organizations, community programs for people with special needs, non-profit social service organizations, and community centers.

  • You should gain experience in organizations such as camps, youth groups, etc. through volunteer participation,
  • You should get involved in campus activities and develop your leadership skills,

In the field of Wellness: They have job opportunities in facilities such as wellness centers, corporate gyms, spa centers, and sports clubs.

What is the difference between Recreation and Recreation Management Undergraduate Programs at Universities?

In Türkiye, recreation education is provided under two different programs at the undergraduate level. These programs are "Recreation" departments within the School of Physical Education and Sports (BESYO) and the Faculty of Sports Sciences, and "Recreation Management" departments in the Faculty of Tourism and the School of Tourism Management and Hotel Management. Graduates of the Recreation undergraduate program in universities are generally the people who are at the head of the recreational activity, guiding and helping the participants. Their curriculum mostly consists of practice-oriented courses. They can become teachers with pedagogical formation. Graduates of the Recreation Management undergraduate program are people who control and manage recreation organizations in their entirety. Their curriculum mostly consists of management-oriented courses. They can work as recreation managers in various businesses.

Is it possible to study and work at the same time?

A student's first responsibility is to attend and succeed in their studies. However, it is possible for students to find part-time work outside of school hours. We have students who both study and work.

Is it possible to spend time at school?

The school has a canteen and a study hall/library. There are also social activities fo students such as table tennis in the canteen and volleyball in the garden.

Are there any activities organized at school?

In addition to social and cultural activities through student societies, professional activities/presentations with sectoral participation are frequently organized during the academic terms.

Does your school participate in outdoor activities?

Manavgat Akademi Topluluğu ve teknik geziler aracılıyla okul dışındaki etkinliklere katılım sağlanmaktadır. Ayrıca öğrencilerimiz ulusal ve uluslararası yarışmalara okulumuz adına ya da bireysel olarak da katılmaktadır.

Can I benefit from the facilities of Akdeniz University?

Yes. Our students can benefit from all the opportunities and activities at the central campus or other campuses.

Can I participate in competitions and festivals on behalf of the school or individually?

Yes.

Is there a possibility of lateral transfer and/or double major between departments and programs?

Lateral transfer between departments and programs is possible. There is no double major opportunity for now.

GRADUATION PROCEDURES AND GETTING THE DIPLOMA

The list of students who are eligible for graduation is sent to the advisor and after the approval of the advisor, the decision for graduation is taken by the board of administration. Afterward, the diplomas printed in the Diploma Unit of the Student Affairs Department are given to the student upon his/her personal application to our Faculty and the student's ID card is taken from the student and his/her diploma is given to him/her.

Yes.

Are there written exams for practical courses?

It is at the initiative of the lecturer. Exams can be written (test, classical) or practical exams.

Is there a compulsory internship program?

No.

Is it compulsory to attend classes?

Students are allowed 30% absenteeism in theoretical courses and 20% absenteeism in practical courses.

However, there may be changes in the case of a pandemic and distant education.

How can I take the make-up exam?

Make-up exam application dates are specified in the Academic Calendar. Applications for make-up exams are made through the OBS system within the relevant date range.

Can the student who cannot attend the final exam apply for the make-up exam?

Yes, they can apply.

Yes. There is a state dormitory affiliated to credit and dormitories institution (KYK).

There are many accommodation facilities such as apart-hotels/pensions in the region. Our students stay in such places or in the houses they rent.

How far is the school from the sea?

10-15 minutes by car.

Are there food and beverage businesses such as hotels, restaurants, etc. near the school?

There are markets, restaurants, and hotels nearby.

Are there any social activity areas close to the school?

Yes. There are many social activity opportunities in Side. There are also many ruins, ancient city remains and tourism center, as well .
