MASTER'S PROGRAM IN TOURISM MANAGEMENT (INTERDISCIPLINARY)

A master's degree is a way for a person to achieve a higher level of learning than a bachelor's degree. The students who successfully complete the program are accepted as experts in the field of tourism management. 

In the 2018-2019 Academic Year, our faculty opened Tourism Management Master's Programs with thesis and without thesis. The non-thesis Master's program was closed and the Master's program with thesis has been continuing. Students are admitted twice a year (Spring and Fall) (Application dates are announced in the academic calendar). 

PURPOSE

The aim of the Tourism Management Master's Program is to enable students to understand the tourism industry in all aspects, to increase their knowledge level in this field, and to gain a global tourism vision; in the light of the stunning developments in information processing and technologies and in the process of Turkey's EU integration process, it has been aimed to supply the Turkish tourism sector with educated, self-renewing, entrepreneurial, dynamic, analytical thinking skills, and modern managers that tourism institutions need.

OBJECTIVE

The purpose of the Tourism Management Master's Program is to train mid-level and senior managers and academicians who have the basic skills required for the tourism services profession, are entrepreneurial, have effective communication skills, and can use computer programs related to their field through theoretical and practical training.

Student admission and registration requirements in the Akdeniz University Graduate Education and Training Regulations will be applied.

The candidates who have successfully completed their master's education can apply to doctorate programs provided that they get a valid grade from ALES exam and have sufficient knowledge of English language.

GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS

The Master's Program with Thesis consists of at least 7 courses with a minimum of 21 national credits, a seminar course, a specialization field course, counseling and thesis study/artwork report. The total of all courses must be at least 120 ECTS, provided that an education period of the master's program with thesis is not less than 60 ECTS credits.

EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES FOR GRADUATES

The job opportunities of our graduates are generally concentrated in two areas. Our graduates can work as middle and senior managers in businesses operating in the tourism and hospitality industry or as researchers/lecturers in universities.

EXAMS, ASSESSMENT AND EVALUATION

The absolute evaluation method is taken as the basis in the calculation of the success grade for graduate courses. After the scores are submitted to the Institute and finalized, they are converted into letter grades by taking into account the values specified in the table below:

PROGRAM PROFILE

The Tourism Management Master's program is designed to meet the needs of managers working in the tourism sector and lecturers working in the field of tourism education. The main purpose of the program is to provide students with a strong academic knowledge, research and problem solving skills in the field of tourism and hospitality industry.

The normal period of the master's program is four semesters, starting from the semester in which the courses related to the program are given, regardless of whether they are registered for each semester, and the program is completed in a maximum of six semesters. Students who fail to successfully complete the credited courses and seminar course in the curriculum at the end of four semesters, or who fail to fulfill the success conditions/criteria prescribed by the University within this period, and who fail in their thesis studies or do not enter the thesis defense within the maximum period of time, are dismissed from the institute.
